Most of La Mirada's December Shows Have One Date. Here's How the Month Fits Together.

Dear Evan Hansen is playing at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts through Sunday, November 22. That is a run of more than three weeks, so you can choose a night and still have others to fall back on.

Five days after it closes, the theatre's calendar works differently. From November 27 through December 20, the theatre's holiday listing has nine titles on 14900 La Mirada Boulevard, and each one has a single listed date. Biola University's Christmas Tree Lighting lands on one Friday in the middle of those dates. If you want a particular show, plan for its one date.

The Last Long Run Ends November 22

The listing shows Dear Evan Hansen running October 30 through November 22, 2026. On the day this post goes up, the run is about a week in, with more than two weeks left. For the next couple of weeks, this is still the one show at the theatre with more than one date.

After the 22nd, the next long run on the listing doesn't arrive in December at all. The first title after the holiday stretch is Curious George: The Golden Meatball on January 17, 2027. Every booking between those two shows has one listed date.

Nine Nights on One Stage

Here is the full stretch from the theatre's holiday page, with each day of the week worked out for 2026:

Date Day Show Listed as
Nov. 27 Friday Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock Live! "A delight for all ages!"
Nov. 29 Sunday Blue Suede Christmas "A Rockin' Holiday Concert!"
Dec. 2 Wednesday The House on Mango Street Phantom Projects Theatre Group
Dec. 6 Sunday The Celtic Tenors Holiday Concert "A Celtic Christmas!"
Dec. 11 Friday Liverpool Legends Rental Event
Dec. 12 Saturday Navidad en Mexico "A Folklorico Christmas Spectacular!"
Dec. 13 Sunday In the Christmas Mood with the Glenn Miller Orchestra "In the Christmas Mood!"
Dec. 15 Tuesday GENTRI Christmas Rental Event
Dec. 20 Sunday Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet "The breathtaking holiday tradition returns!"

The dates fall into three groups.

Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26. Fraggle Rock plays the next day, and Blue Suede Christmas follows on Sunday. If relatives are staying through the weekend, the Friday show is the one the theatre's listing describes as being for all ages.

December 11 through 13. Liverpool Legends, Navidad en Mexico and the Glenn Miller Orchestra play three nights in a row. It's the busiest weekend on the calendar, with three different kinds of music on three straight nights.

The weeknights. The House on Mango Street on Wednesday, December 2, and GENTRI Christmas on Tuesday, December 15, are the only dates that don't fall on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Two of the nine, Liverpool Legends and GENTRI Christmas, are marked "Rental Event." That means an outside presenter has booked the hall for that night. Ticketing for both still goes through the theatre's own cart, so you buy the same way as for every other show on the list.

The season closes with the Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet on Sunday, December 20, the Sunday before Christmas week.

Friday, December 4 Belongs to Biola

Between The House on Mango Street on December 2 and the Celtic Tenors on December 6, the theatre has nothing booked. Biola University's event falls on that open Friday.

Biola's Christmas Tree Lighting and Christmas Market is on Friday, December 4, 2026, from 4 to 9 p.m. It is free and open to the general public. Biola calls it the 43rd Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.

The evening happens in two places on campus:

  • 4 p.m., Sutherland Way. The Christmas Market opens with vendors from alumni-owned businesses. Biola lists artisan crafts, home goods, holiday ornaments, jewelry and handcrafted gifts, plus treats and hot cocoa along the way.
  • 7 p.m., Metzger Lawn. The ceremony includes special music, a reading of the Christmas story and a message from Biola President Dr. Barry Corey. It ends with the tree lighting and what the university calls its traditional Southern California "snow."

Biola is also collecting Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that night at any of its candle stations and says it will take them to the distribution center. If you've been packing a shoebox, you can drop it off at the same event.

Since the market opens three hours before the lighting, you can shop early and then stay for the 7 p.m. ceremony. The whole evening fits between 4 and 9 p.m.

Where the City's Own Traditions Fit

The city runs its own holiday events on a separate schedule from the theatre and Biola. Last year it held two.

The first was Chili Holiday on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. The La Mirada Blog's Holiday '25 roundup listed live entertainment, holiday crafts, story time with Mrs. Claus, photos with Santa, holiday train rides and a tree lighting ceremony. Food included hot dogs, cookies, hot chocolate, coffee and chili. Guests were asked to bring new, unwrapped toys and non-perishable food.

The second was Santa's Holiday Caravan, which Discover La Mirada reported ran December 16 through 18, 2025. It started at 5 p.m. each evening and followed a different neighborhood route each night.

Those are 2025 dates. For this year, check the City of La Mirada calendar, or call the number the 2025 roundup gave for Chili Holiday, (562) 943-7277. Last year Chili Holiday fell on the same date as this year's Celtic Tenors concert, December 6. Whichever date the city picks this year, it will land somewhere among the theatre's single-night shows.

One Way to Build the Month

If you want to see more than one event, here's an order that follows the calendar:

  1. Before November 22: see Dear Evan Hansen while it still has multiple dates.
  2. Thanksgiving weekend: Fraggle Rock on Friday, November 27, if you're hosting family with kids. Blue Suede Christmas on Sunday, November 29, if you're not.
  3. Friday, December 4: Biola's Christmas Market from 4 p.m., then the tree lighting at 7 p.m.
  4. December 11 to 13: choose one of the three back-to-back nights, or book more than one if you'd like a full weekend of music.
  5. Sunday, December 20: Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet closes the theatre's holiday season.

Add the city's Chili Holiday and caravan once their 2026 dates are on the city calendar.

The Room Being Built Next to the Stage

The theatre is also adding a new space. In February 2024, a city council agenda recommended a $247,700 construction contract with Corner Keystone Construction Corp. for a new Cabaret Lounge at the La Mirada Theatre.

The Olive Grove News reported in June 2026 that at its May 12 meeting, the city council approved Contract Change Order No. 3, adding $37,773.18 to the project. The outlet described the lounge as a place for guests to relax before a show, at intermission or after the curtain falls. It also said the room is expected to host special events, receptions and community gatherings tied to the theatre's programming.

That kind of space fits a holiday season built on single dates. When a show has one listed night, the time before curtain and at intermission becomes part of the evening, and the lounge is designed for exactly that.
